After much consideration, I deleted this post in an effort to avoid offending the delicate sensibilities of the self styled arbiters of Internet etiquette who are lurking about the forum.

Many thanks to those of you who chose respond with your valuable suggestions instead of being so form conscious.

Good Shooting, HBB

6mm 100gr at 4100 fps......... wow

Where to start? I'd start with a review of Ken Howells book. I think its called "Designing and Forming Wildcat Cartridges" or something like that. Your not going to find the whole answer but it'll give a start.

Second run the computer program "Load From A Disk". From it I think you can arrive at a pressure / case volume ballpark idea to use as a starting place looking for a possible parrent case.

Hbb, a while back Ross Seyfried wrote an article about the 6mm Mach IV, which is an improved 7mm Rem Mag case neacked down to 6mm. He was getting 4000 fps with Barnes X bullets, but I think the weight was 85 gr. Still it's a place to start, you also might look at the 244 H & H Improved/6mm STW. These cartridges are all overbore as hell, and probably need charcoal to get max speeds out of them, but they should put you in the ballpark, if you put enough barrel on it. Look at surplus cannon (20-40mm) powders. - Dan
