Had an interesting conversation at my local gun store this weekend. Went in to buy some IMR 4895 for my .308 Win., and the local manager said that he has been having a hard time getting some powders and primers.

Has anyone else noticed this? The other store I go to still has all the powder, but the owner also commented that some was getting harder to get.

There have never been as many sources of powders and primers as are available today.

From time to time, the favored supplier of a retailer (which is typically the wholesaler who has his own distribution, therefore avoiding hazmat fees) will be seasonally short on one or another type of merchandise. If your retailer is willing to look elsewhere, he will find no "shortage" of components.

I'm with Stonecreek here......I don't see a shortage of powder. Just a reluctance (justifiable I might add) for dealers to handle all of them.

It just struck me as odd that he said there was a shortage of IMR powders. I will see him this week, and ask who his main wholesaler is. The other store in town has plenty of IMR, but is short on some other powders, so I wonder if it isn't an issue with the wholesale supplier.

It is that time of year and IMR especially -- 4350 and 4895 are THE most used powders.

I've had a hard time finding Re-19 around here.

I have a pound of RE 19 and loaded ten rounds out of it and did not like it in my caliber.
I will give it to you for the postage expense if you want it.
Send me a PM if interested.
