I am wanting to load some 22 hornet shells. I have alot of Rl7. I will be loading 40 grain V-Max and 40 grain Berger bullets for a new Encore barrel. I have read alot about Lil-Gun, and agree that it is probably the best. But I have 20# of RL7 for my 45-70, and would like to use it in my 22 Hornet. Any load suggestions?? I will be using CCI small pistol primer's. Tom. WEST BY GOD VIRGINIA

I don't recall ever seeing RL-7 in any reloading manual recommended for the 22 Hornet. Personally, I would not try using it. Lil-Gun, H-110, 2400, 4227, and 296 are recommended. H-110 shoots best in my Hornet. Don

It can be used, but is too slow for optimum velocities. Use 4198 data for a guideline. Hell, on second thought, you don't need a guideline because you can't get enough of it in a case with a 40 grain bullet to raise pressures to even standard, much less excessive levels. Just put all you can in and go. It might give you pretty good accuracy if you can live with somewhat reduced velocities. But then if you can't live with lower velocities in a Hornet, you should be shooting a lager cartridge to begin with Try it, you might like it. Good luck with your Hornet. They can be a lot of fun (if you don't mind the frustration in getting there).
