Yeah I know it is off-topic but you guys give the best answers. Was getting a laser rangefinder and had given up on a Barr and Stroud type due to $$ but just found a site that has Wild rangefinders at a very reasonable price ($499). Other than size is there a downside to this type? Due to them not requiring a reflection and having a higher magnification than a laser it just seems like a much better way to go for the over 500yd stuff. Am I missing something?

I don't guess this is really what you folks are speaking about, but I'll take the opportunity anyway to mention that I have a Bushnell YP1000, and it's a great unit. I got it for right at 300 dollars because the new models were being made smaller.

I've got consistent readings on tree lines (with correct lighting) in the 900 yard range with this unit.

For some bizarre reason, the unit seems to have gotten better with age! It used to balk at anything over 600 yards unless lighting was perfect, but now it isn't so finicky.

Kid Colt, we ain't that far from each other...
