I have gone a little bit longer in mine, 2.55. I can understand why you might want to go longer though. Unfortunately, you are kind of limited to bullets with with shorter ogives. Due to the short OAL many of today's boat tail bullets will simply not work in the gun properly i.e. TSX, accubonds, ballistic tips, etc. I have had good results with 140gr. hornaday flextips and 165 gr Woodleighs for hunting.
I will admit that this caliber is possibly my LEAST favorite to load for.

With the velocity limits of the cartridge why would one even need to use a premium bullet.

Any good cup and core round nose would work just fine.

Need more power get a 300sav 308

p dog shooter,
Some of us would rather have a pointed bullet than a round nose for the benefits they provide in wind and at moderate ranges. Premium bullets? maybe not in this caliber but a nice spitzer or hollow point is a plus at any velocity above the speed of sound.
Even if it is just a matter of esthetics alone we each have our own preferences and don't care what might "work just fine" when our bullet choice is better than that in our own mind.

Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.
