Is there a ball powder (or any powder) suitable for developing compressed loads in a 250 Savage class cartridge? It would have to be a slow powder not normally considered fast enough for that size cartridge, I should think. The idea is to gain a bit more velocity without raising chamber pressure. Pressure limit is 45 000 CUP. (The desire stems from the fact that I wanted a 257 Roberts class cartridge for the range but acquired a 250 class rifle instead – nothing wrong with that, it’s a great cartridge!) I am looking for top 250 Savage velocity without modern rifle chamber pressure. Currently, I have Varget/R2208, which seems to be the ‘optimum’ normal powder. It does leave a fair amount of empty space in the case and I would rather be filling the case completely but powders listed that fill the case give the same or lower velocity at the same or higher pressure.
