I've noticed there seem to be quite a few 9.3 owners on this forum. I posted this question on another forum and like the last few I've posted I get no response. I'd like to know if anyone has experimented with the 250 nos.bt. I load it and get good velocity. I was told by nosler that the jacket was thicker on the 9.3 than the smaller calibers. With the bc of the bullet that would make it a 350yrd range round for elk. If you have any info pleased reply, at least say hello. thanks

I have worked up a load using VV-N550 and the 250 gr BT for my 9.3x62's and it is very accurate and does fly fast. I have sectioned one of the bullets and the jacket is pretty thick (about .08" where the ogive ends) about the same as the 358 250 gr BT though not as heavy as the 200 gr 338 BT. The Nosler folks have told me that the 338 bullet is very much suitable for elk. Of course velocities in the 9.3 are relatively slow compared to what folks will likely launch that 338 slug so I suspect it would be fine for elk though I would pick my shot and not take any extreme quartering ones. I have been going around and around on what bullet to take to South Africa this June. The 286 gr Partition, 232 gr Oryx, 250 gr BT and the 250 gr X all shoot very well in my rifles....

I appreciate your response I have two 9.3x62 one is a CZ with a 23.6" barrel the other is a FN with a 26" barrel. I get 2700 ft. per sec. from the 26" 2640 from the 23.6". That should be enough for elk I would think. If I could get the norma onyx it probably would be better. W hat do you think. thanks

Toto,
I have worked up loads with the 250BT, but have been able to get 2600fps out of my 23" barrel with one powder, H4895.

I would like to know what powder you are using, and a start load. This looks like it should be a wonderful bullet, but I am getting better relative velocities with the 286gr bullets!

Thanks. Ku-dude

I believe I answered you on this already on that other post..I shoot about 59 gr. of RL-15 and the accuracy is great..I have only shot one deer and seveal hogs with that load and it worked just fine..It seems to be a tough bullet, but its no partition and a 286 gr.partition at about 2520 FPS is what I would use on elk. Mostly I have used the 300 gr. swifts and 320 gr Woodleighs (my favorite bullet) on buffalo and larger plainsgame.

Hello Gents,
I've been using the 250 Gr BT in my 9.3x62 for about a year now so far I've shot 3 mooses, 1 boar and some deer. I'm pretty pleased with the performance of the bullet so far. Penetration is'nt as good as Barnes X or Nosler Partition. But all the animals went down pretty fast( none traveled more than 50 m). Meat damage was acceptable and accuracy was great. By the way I'm using Vihtavouri N-540 and getting 2600+ fps with my Blaser r-93. Groups are between 0.5-1.0 MOA.
Best Regards
Henrik

I have a 9.3x62, CZ 550. Ed and Ku-dude, could you please publish your datas on 250 and 286 grain bullets? I am especially interested in VV N500 series and IMR stick type powders, as this is what I will try first.

I understand about individual rifles and necessity to work up.

Thanks in advance, Hermann

I have a custom 9.3x62 built on a Argentine M98 which is very strong. My upper end loads I will not publish because of liability issues. I used the following starting loads:

IMR4064 52grs FC215M starting
H-4895 55grs FC215M starting
H-4895 55grs WLR starting
SR118 56grs FC210 starting
Varget 52.5grs WLR starting

You should be safe to work up loads in your rifle. Keep in mind that there are some 9.3x62's built on the Swedish Mauser which are not quite as strong as the M98.

I would still like to see Toto's data for the 250BT. It just seems to me that if we drop from 286 to 250gr and the bearing surface of some of those bullets to that of the 250, there has got to be more velocity in there some where. Ku-dude

Today I tried 250BT's with 59grs of RL15. The average velocity from my 23inch tube was just under 2600fps if you eliminated the "low shots". The first five shots were in Lapau brass and increased with each firing until 2627fps. The Norma cases stayed in the 2400's. The Norma cases had more rounds thru them. There were no pressure signs in either brand of case. Acc was OK (I wasn't at my best today). I can regularly get 2600+ with H4895 although admittedly this is the upper limit. Ku-dude
