Found a round I haven't heard of before, and did a search on it on the net and came up blank. It's a 7.92X63mm (NOT a Mauser), for the Swedish military, and in the ad it claims a 218grain bullet at 3150fps.....at 125 loonies per 1000 rounds, I'd like to find a reamer for it!!!!
www.marstar.ca/ammo and click on 792x63mm.htm
By the way, check out the prices on the Norinco stuff...I HAVE GOT TO buy me 1911A1 at that price, or an M-14, with my tax return!!!! Sorry Americans, I guess your government won't let you buy cheap ChiCom stuff like our Canadian government will. [Big Grin]

Am unfamiliar with the cartridge, but would comment that there are few deals with Norinco. You get what you pay for and their M-14's in particular are notorious POS.................

Are you sure you don't mean 7.92x33? Or possibly the 8x63?

CampX,

The cartridge is described in Cartridges of the World, and is shown as the 8X63 Swedish there. They say it was developed in 1932 for various machine guns and the M40 rifle.

The ballistics of the military round are 218 grain bullet at 2,493 fps with an energy of 3025 ft-lbf.

They do show a 150 grain load with 60 grains 4895 at 3,050 fps.

By comparison the 8X68 Hirtenberger 200 grain factory load is claimed at 2,958 fps MV -- marked as "optimistic".

The cartridge I believe, is also known as the 8mm-06. Shooters rechambered old 8mm mausers to this round because of the cheap easy to find `06 brass after the war. The Speer #10 has data for it and a small write up.

Speers data is a bit milder the the stuff campx is listing, they claim a 200gr bullet at 2600fps. They also add there is no pressure std and loads were judged to be safe in their rifle, nothing said about them being max.

The 8X63 Swedish was adopted in 1932 for
Browning machine guns by the Swedish Army. They also adopted the M/40 rifle chambered in the same caliber to arm the machine gun crews.

It is an oddball cartridge having a rebated rim.

Thanks for the info, I should have searched under 8 X 63mm....I am to assume that 3150fps is "somewhat optimistic"? Also listed in Marstar's website is Yugo and German Mausers, so if you were to buy one at $300 dollars, get it reamed for 8X63, and buy 1000 rounds of that ammo it would be a deal.
As for the Norinco stuff, I'd almost take the chance of getting a POS M-14 clone for that price. I hear that their 1911A1's ARE a good deal, and are well built. At $325 dollars compared to what you'd pay for in a Springfield or Colt, I'm gonna go for it. I already have 2 Norinco SKS's, and I love them....so cheap to shoot, and to dress up.
