Im slowly putting together a Rem SPSS in 308, Burris picatinny bases and TRS 1" rings obtained from Midway, Burris 6-24 Sig. is sitting in the closet awaiting the mount, Jewell trigger will be coming tuesday, it a new model to me as it has the bottom safety, H-S Precision PSV096 or the Police snipe model on sale at Midway is what Ill be using for the stock. Will be starting with 168Amax bullets, RE15, WLR primers & Win. brass, hope to obtain some 178AMAXs and or 175MKs after trying the 168s. Now I need some load suggestions with this combo or if you have another powder that might work better, I do have some Varget as well, have no access to VV powders, so lets not go there. What are your suggestions for these bullets?

My best loads was 168gr hornady HPBT cci br2 primers and win brass. a load of H380 gave me 2400f/s out of a 24" adams and bennet barrel 1:10 twist. it shot 5 shot 1/4" groups. best factory load was a federal 165gr ballistic tip, under 1/2" groups 2700f/s. had some palma bullets 155gr that shot under 1/2" at 300yrds (I know A&B what was I thinkin)

The only "Match" bullets Ive shot were 168MKs out of my 700(used to be varmint model and now sports a Rem. stainless sporter barrel) and a classic stock to boot. Shot very well with 42grs RE15, not as good with the favorite "Sniper" load of 42grs Varget. Just a test I had to do to see for myself.

I tried several powder but reloader powders, I have never tried any . varget was ok, i kept getting crazy velocity spreads with match preped cases and premium bullets. at first I thought it was the barrel untill i tried some diffrent powders and the velocities settled down with H380 and H414 imr4350 came in second with groups under 3/4". all these powders and loads were shot using a ladder at 300yrs. most all the loads were between 2400 and 2600f/s. i have some older ww760 and it definitely is diffrent than h414. wc846 also shot real good but there was a lot of muzzle flah and dirt. I shot some 175 gr bullets but never did get a good load worked up I was using H414 and IMR4064. I tried searra and speer . could not get my hands on any hornadys. good luck

Ive been told Federal uses RE15 in their "Sniper" rounds for the military, id give it a try, I used 42grs and 9.5 primers, got 2 in the same hole, group size was about 5/8" @100yds.(3 shots). BTW, 6X scope is all I had mounted on that rifle.

I've had great success with 41.3 and 41.6 gr Varget ... 3/8th 5 shot groups with SMK, AB, and Intebonds. Run up to 44gr and all of the above open up to .75 to MOA. I tried 43.5gr and a bunch of different seating depts w the SMK and AB but this rifle likes a bit less powder to shoot tiny groups.
Good luck....
As a secondary consideration I have read a few guys who are using RL17 in 308 and having some success.

Excellent information you recieved. That is the optimum twist for the .308W. Try working up to 45 gr of Varget in WW cases with WLR primers under the 175 gr MK. It is an excellent load in my M70 target and also in several other target .308Ws.
