The .243 Ruger varmint that I blew the stuck bullet and cleaning rod OUT OF is not only functioning its making very tight clover leaves. I mean great.A friend gave me a small handfull of unidentified 75 gr. .243 bullets with purple plastic tips and they all went into the same hole(nearly). I don't know what they are and neither does he, but I bet one of you do.I had so many small groups today I feel guilty. The real surprise was a 12 shot grp. using a Win 80 gr. in front of 49gr. 5020 win. mag. primer - you could cover with a Quarter. But there was some unburned powder.Velocity aveaged 2550ft/sec. Maven! In the .308 the 175gr. Fp win 30-30 bullet driven by 40 grains of 4350 and wlr primer had good accuracy and averaged 2025ft./sec. Same bullet Same case;40 gr. 7383 first 3 shots 1/8" group.averaged 2150ft./sec. Some unburned powder that felt a little sticky???\ After all this time playing with 7383 I think we have a winner. .358X.404 IMP. 250gr. fp win. bullet, 81gr.7383 win mag primer. Base of bullet just touches powder and is crimped. SHAZAM all the powder was gone at 2700ft./sec. and the 4 bullets grouped better than 1". Now 81gr. is 88% of what I found was the max load of 4350 (92gr.)That's a number someone talked about on the last 7383 thread. The max. load of 4350 drives the 250 grainer at OVER 3100ft.?sec. The 7383 was trickeled into the cases to take up as little volume as possible. In like manner we might be able to get a compressed load of maybe 85gr.of 7383?? Nothing that I touched today turned into that soft brown mush stuff. Of course the temperature did get up to 90 and with the 12% humidity it was awful; the land of fruits and nuts. Right? anybody still have snow? Bwana-Be FYI. .359X.404 IMP. 200gr Rn. 71Gr. 4064 win mag. primer, Bell case, avg. 2525ft./sec. Just a nice light load you might find usefull for starts on your big 35 Some days are diamond some days are stone. Today was a gem of some kind. I haven't got around to reading my copy of Shooting Times. I guess I'll finish the day by seeing what Jamison has to say before I go to bed. roger

Roger, I'm glad to learn your .243 wasn't damaged by the snafu. It's also nice to know that 7383 performance is predictable and while not a clone of 4350, it is certainly a close relative! Btw, we've had ~6" of new, but rapidly melting snow this week. Tomorrow (3/11/04), however, looks promising for some target practice. ...Maven

Quote: Hey Roger, Congratulations! Real glad to hear the rifle wasn't damaged. Sounds like Nosler B-Tips to me. Just looked at my B-Tip bullets and couldn't tell for sure because I've Moly Coated all of mine and that hides the Tip color.

Hey Roger, Yes. As I'm sure you know, each rifle seems to just shoot better with a "specific" bullet and the 75gr Nosler B-Tip might just be the one for your rifle. My 223Rem shoots the 50gr B-Tips into very small groups better than anything I've tried in it. If you are still in the "Test Mode", my 243Win really likes the 75gr Sierra Hollow Point(#1510) better than anything I've tried with H380 powder. But, it will be difficult for any bullet or Load to do better than you are currently getting. Best of luck to you. ... Be sure not to loose the exact Load, write it on something including the Seating Depth. I've had a "few" of some bullet before and loaded them just to get some Trigger Time with a mild load and found I had accidentally created a Tack Driver. When you are back at the house trying to remember the specifics, a note or two sure helps.

Has anyone measured how much bulkier the IMR7383 is over IMR4350?

I'm 99.9% sure your shooting a Nosler Balistic Tip. I use the 55gr in .243 (has a purple tip too) and consistently get under 1/2 moa. Go to www.nosler.com and check the product line to make sure thats what your using. I'm a pretty big fan of the BT. Its amazing on varmints and I really like their performance on medium sized game in the larger calibers. I once shot a ram rod out of my muzzleloader. I recovered it 75yds away and still have it today. Crazy stuff Jeff

Clark,Accurate 4350 is all I have at the present time. 92gr.a4350 takes up the same voume as 83.3 gr. of 7383. How a4350 equates to IMR 4350 or H4350 by volume I know not. Hot Core all my loads are filed in my computer and eventually backed up on floppies. I will try the sierra bullet also. Thanks for the clue. roger

bartsche, Thanks. When I use AA4350 with 90% case fill in quickload [83.3 gr/92 gr], the only good applications I would have are 243 and 257RAI with heavy bullets. I don't shoot many of those so I will pass on the IMR7343. I DO SEE that W680 would be cheaper and higher velocity than Blue Dot in .223, but make more noise.
