Guys. A simple question, please forgive my ignorance but what is meant by the term "extreme powder." | ||

I think you'll find that 'extreme' powders is just a marketing term used for some of Hodgdens powders that are supposedly a bit more temperature insensitive than most. I think you'll find that most of them are repackaged powders from ADI in Australia. | |||

These powders are,indeed, made in Australia.They were developed by the Aus. military to be very temperature insensitive.Temps of over 50 C can be found "in the shade" in Aus in many places,leave your ammo in the sun and the sky's the limit.I think the phrase used is "micro porosity" or somesuch-the powders are very different in construction to ordinary powders. Jonathan, Hey I had the same type of question, sort of, with loading and setting up a rifle in the warmer weather at sea level then going to colder drier climate at about 3500ft. Went to all the powder manufaturers and posted the question. Alliant came back and said it would change pressure and probably point of impact because of a different velocity. IMR said the same thing. Hodgdon said that the deterants they use on the EXTREME line were done just for this porpose. They have engieneered the powders to be able to do just we need, go from one climate and temperature to another and nit have to re-work up a load. True or not I won't know until after November!!!!!
