I've been using Varget in my .308 with great success [Big Grin] , and was just wondering if anyone has had much luck with it in the 30-06. It would sure simplify things if I could find one powder that works well in both!

I see that this is your first post. Welcome to the forum!

I can't say that I've had extensive experience with Varget, but it has not been a very successful powder for me and I've lost interest in it, although others report good results from it. I've tried it in .223, 6mm Remington, .260 Remington, .30-06, and .375 H&H. It is supposed to have about the same burning rate as IMR 4064, so you may find that it works well in your .30-06 with the lighter bullets (110 to 150 grains).

Thanks for the welcome, and happy new year everyone!

This will be my first attempt at reloading for my 30-06, and after much research, I suspect that something like 4350 may be the best overall choice. It was just wishful thinking that I could come up with a powder that would work well in both rounds. That Varget stuff is great, though. It is clean burning, tolerates temperature changes well, and is consistant as heck...at least in my rifle.

Any additional thought are welcome.

Thanks again.

Adam, Varget works great for my .308 and my 6mm Rem. For my .30-06 though I've had great results with 180 grain bullets and Reloader 22. Haven't tried Varget in the .30-06, and probably won't.

Hey Adam, Yes, welcome to the Board.

You have pretty much answered your own question, which speaks well for you.

The Varget might or might not provide good accuracy in "your" 30-06. The only way to know for sure is for you to try it.

However, you are correct that the various 4350s are better suited to this cartridge size "IF" you want Peak Performance at a lower Internal Pressure. Just as with the Varget, you still have to try it in "your" specific rifle to see what it prefers with a specific case/primer/bullet.

It would be surprising to find that H4350 didn't work well for you. I've also had good luck with H414 in the 30-06. But, one of the nicer traits of this cartridge is that it works well with quite a few different powders.
