The deer I shot with this bullet went straight down, but I also point out that with a 6mm Bullet, regardless of weight, shot placement plays a key role in success.

Round Noses always work in my experience, that is why I love them.

Back in the 60s Fred Barnes and I built a 6mmX270 Improved with the intention of giving his 115 grain bullet some extensive field testing at high velocities. This bullet never failed me. All the deer that I and others shot with this rifle were super kills. I left that rifle in Grand Junction and reports on its performance through the years with the Barnes' originals were outstanding. Conversly other manufacturer's 105 grain bullets proved to be terrible wounders especially under 100 yards.A piece of our Americana ,sadly, is disappearing along with the Original Fred. Seafire, I just checked the Barnes website and the 115 gr. 6mm is still listed among the offerings. Did the vendor from whom you purchased say that this bullet was discontinued? How long ago did you learn this?. Needless to say, Barnes may just be delinquent in updating its website.

I have had them 5 or 6 yrs I bet!

I have also heard that they moved so slow, that they still have tons on the shelves at the warehouse. that may be why they are still around.

Most of the Barnes Originals are gone from what I hear so that they can make the newer trendy bullets.

But not being a big barnes user......................, oh well;

SeaFire, How fast was that Barnes' bullet going when you used it on deer? What size deer are we talking about? What size was the exit hole? These are just curiosities which will become part of found memories of things and days that once were.Oh! Have a great Thanksgiving. roger

Roger,

The velocity was about 3100 or so. The deer was nothing special, typical Blacktail good for two steaks and 5 pounds of beef jerky.

It was uneventful.

I did actually carry the load out Elk hunting several times also and for a local that the longest shot would have been 200 yds, I think it would have been up to the task. ( once again with proper shotplacement.)

Hope you have a happy thanksgiving at your home also.
Cheers
