I would appreciate some help with some faster powder 70gr loads and a good speedy 85gr load

For the 70gr I was thinking along the lines of IMR 3031, a 4895 or VVN135 (which I have on hand). I don't want a fireball at dusk so no 4350 etc.

The 85gr bullet needs to be stepping out a bit. I have VVN160 or H4350 on hand.

Rifle - sako 243, 22" barrel

What kind of velocity are you looking for? With the 85 grain, 3300 to 3350 is within realm with the IMR 3031, 4064, 4895, 4320 powders.

Using a faster powder, will cut down on muzzle flash if you are shooting at dusk or later.

I am getting ready to play with Hercules 2400 and Blue Dot in a 243 since I have had good luck with the latter in a 22/250 and 223. If you are wanting velocity, are the 75 grain Hornady Hollow Points available over in England??

3500 fps is possible with that bullet in a 243.

Give me a few more details of what you are looking for and I can forward you what my experience has been with it.

Velocity and muzzle flash are sort of contradictory tho.
At dusk, I am sure a MV of 2500 fps would be just fine, for what you would be able to see. 3300 fps would not be much flatter shooting at 200 yds that 2500 with most bullets, depending on how SMALL your intended target is. Consult a trajectory manual to see just how little.

Cheers and Good shooting
