I have been looking for brass (with some help from members here and elsewhere) for my 257 Roberts.

The cheapest I have found are over $0.50 each plus shipping. It has been a while since I have needed to buy brass but back then it was often less than $0.10 each.

I am wondering what a good price is or was before all the gun prices jumped and scalpers got involved.

Speer, Sierra, Lyman, Hornady, Hodgdon have reliable reloading data. You won't find it on so and so's web page.

For once fired rifle brass these days I try to pay less than one half the cost of new brass of the same type. I would not pay that much for really common cases that are in ready supply due to widespread use like 30-30 or .243.
I do not pay that much for 270 because it seems the users do not reload that much.

1. The killer is the brass has to be near perfect as is found at an indoor range.
2. It must be in large quantities of common headstamps of quality brands - at least lots of 60 and 120 is better. The extras are to make up an occaisional causalty down the road.

Ten years ago I was still buying in large lots of rifle brass for $.05 each. Then I would pay up to $.10 each for what I considered hard to find cases and premium brands in large lots.

About that time Winchester-Olin must have made a lot of over run brass and it was offered at auction on Ebay. I got a lot of that brass very cheap. It included .375 H&H, .257, .348, .32-20 and some others. The point I am making is you have to buy it when the market is in your favor and wait if you can when the market is tight.

I may be parting with some R-P 257 Roberts brass, new and once fired. I also will be parting with some 32 Win Special brass. I am looking to trade first:

1. I need 30 caliber 180 grain Nosler Partitions, Spitzer or Protected Point bullets.

2. I need Hornady or Speer 170 grain 30-30 FN bullet tips.

I do not, except once-fired military 223 and 308.
Too many variables for me to feel comfortable going that way.

Ony if I can positively identify it as "once fired" would I buy it...

Once fired factory brass in boxes is worth about 50% of new brass to me..and I can buy wholesale..

Unless its a rare of hard to find brass then I pay whatever I have too within reason..and it also depends on caliber, some big bore brass is pretty high dollar, as is some old Win brass or even some more modern calibers that the factory only makes a run of about every 4 years. A few years ago I bought a case of new Rem .416 Rem cases and paid a bunch for it..

I have .308/180 NABs and the Speer 170 FPs.

I'd trade for .308 150 gr TTSX or .264 130 gr NAB.
