I thought I'd share. First time shooting this load in this new barrel. If not for a really crappy Blaser trigger pull, shot #2 might also have gone in one ragged hole.

Good shooting Dave. That M43 really puts out a lot of data. Interestingly, the vel that my M33 records using 75gr a RL15 averages 2898 from my M70 measured 10 ft from the muzzle (also a 25 inch barrel) but I also get very low Sd and excellent accuracy. There's only about 20 shots down this barrel. Perhaps it'll speed up a bit once it gets broken in. You know, the slow barrel-- fast barrel thing?

Hey Dave, Those sure are some nice looking charts. I particularly like where the Accoustic Target plots the Points-of-Impact and where the fluctuating B.C. is documented. Are you use CHE & PRE, to know for sure when to quit dumping in Powder so you do not exceed a Safe MAX Load???

76.0gr is a mid-range load...neither starting nor maximum. I'm quite satisfied with a three quarter inch, 100 yard, 4 shot group at 2840fps. Seeing as I'm not a glutton for off-the-bench recoil punishment, I think I'll leave well enough alone. If my quarry dictates something heavier than 235gr bullets, I'll go up to 270gr or even 300gr. If that's not enough, there's always my 416 Rem mag. Perhaps I haven't made my self perfectly clear about CHE|PRE: it's a waste of my time and patience.

Interesting! I once owned a Weatherby Weathermark Alaskan in .375 H&H. It shot very, very well! (Gave it to a friend who was not likely to be able to afford a big bore as he's a school teacher.) I remembered that it shot Speer 235s like a house of fire, so I looked up the load and results. At 76.0 gr of RL-15 with Remington cases and WLR primers it ran 2934 fps at 85F with an extreme spread of 34.5 fps and a MAD of 11.7. Not bad numbers ... but it was really consisent on the targets. One day it popped a three round 100 yard group of 0.28" Best group I've ever shot with a big bore. Damned shame that Speer bullet has the impact characteristics of a hand grenade even on whitetail deer! Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... Nothing wrong with that group. Good shootin! Curious how the velocity gets lower for each consecutive shot. Coincidence or barrel warming? Regards 303Guy

Generally barrel worming would increase FPS due to less or lack of resistance from the expanding metal. But! If the rifle is new it could decrease it from the copper and carbon build up. Do you have the paper target to go with the didgi documents? Also when measuring groups do you subtract the DIA of your bullet to give you your true group size? Although I agree good group! Hell any group that touches I would say is good, any group that touches out past 300yds/meters I d call outstanding! How do you like your ballistics testing hardware and program? Nice, I looked up that hardware and software your running, and I have to say I m jealous. They stopped production of it all. But I did just sent for a copy of the barns ballistic software. Any advice? I d rather have a bad day at the range then a great day in the office! Gooday onefunzr2, What is your run in procedure for a new barrel? Regards, Bob.

This was a used barrel, albeit with only 12 factory loads down the tube. In fact, it was bloodied in Africa. These Blaser barrels don't copper foul much when shooting guilding metal jacketed bullets. So far, for this barrel, the 6.5x284 and the 300WSM, I've only swabbed down the bore with Hoppes #9 after each 10 shots. Not even a bronze brush. And I'll probably wait to load Barnes solid copper bullets until I get something on the order of 100+ rounds through it.
