Have you used any of the "new" WW780? - reported to be about the burn rate of Re22/MRP. I have some and plan to use it soon. It is a compact ball powder, having been used extensively in factory 300 WM cartidges.

I bought a pound and sampled it a bit in the 300 H&H......I'm not able to give a detailed report as there's not enough testing here....but I like ball powders and the burn rate is excellent for many of my guns.....

Winchester's website claims that this is the powder that is used in the Winchester Supreme ammo for .243 Win and .270 Win.

Leave it to Olin to give us another powder to get used to only to discontinue it, again. Remember WMR, WXR, 785, W785?

Even so, I am temped to give it a try. It seems to be one of the few powders I can readily get my hands on.

I've got 4# of it and have tried it in the .264 win mag with 129 gr bullets. It was great. 3355fps.

I've read it was also the powder to duplicate the .300 win mag factory loads. I will be using it to push 190 gr Sierra HPBT match bullets. I'll report back with what I find.

Good luck if you have some.

I talked to the Hodgdon tech about it. I noticed the data shows very low pressures and great velocity. He says it's because it's a new technology powder. I wish I had 8#'s.

Just what I was thinking.
I will wait to see if it makes past a few years.

I worked a load with it for the 280 Rem AI to see if it would be an adequate replacement for WMR. It is.

Hey Vapo, looks like rc found some GREAT News. Low Pressures and rippin velocity is difficult for me to get. Maybe this new Powder is just what I need.

Hey rc, Did you hear any Carnival music in the background when you talked to that guy? ( animalOnly joking!)

By the way Vapo, did you ever get a chance to burn any of the IMR-4007? I think you were talking about it in a different thread a few weeks ago.

This is what Winchester/Hodgkin is saying:

Supreme 780 is the same powder loaded in Winchester’s factory Supreme® ammunition including 243 Win., 270 Win., and 300 Win. Mag.

Allows the handloader to duplicate Winchester Supreme factory loads

Supreme 780 is a BALL POWDER® propellant, which means easy measure flow resulting in the most consistent charge weights

This is the slowest burning of the Winchester rifle powders

Comparable in burn speed to H4831®

Relative Burn Rate:

94 NORMA 204
95 Hodgdon HYBRID 100V
96 Vihtavouri N550
97 Alliant Reloder 19
98 IMR, Co IMR4831
99 Accurate Arms 3100
100 Vihtavouri N160
101 Hodgdon H4831 & H4831SC
102 Winchester Supreme 780
103 NORMA MRP
104 Alliant Reloder 22
105 Vihtavouri N560
106 Vihtavouri N165
107 IMR, Co IMR7828
108 Vihtavouri N170
109 Hodgdon H1000
110 Hodgdon RETUMBO
111 Vihtavouri N570
112 Accurate Arms 8700
113 Hodgdon H870
114 Vihtavouri 24N41

I would expect it has a specific gravity like most other ball powders.
If the speed is comparable to H4831, the greater density will make it a bit more useful in some of the undersized cases. The bigger cases will wind up with more airspace.
