After playing around with a couple early 250's (a M 1920 Sav bolt and an Sav 99) I had a new .257 cal barrel with 1 in 10 in twist put on a Sav Model 11 bolt action. Wanted to see what is possible with 100 gr and possibly 115 gr bullets when this cartridge is loaded to 50 K psi. Have a Grandson who will be shooting soon so this is a serious effort. Getting some serious groups with 4320 and 75 gr Hornady HP's.Also the Speer 100 gr spitzers are grouping nice. W760 shows some promise. Have also started using some RL 17 with the 100 gr. Started @ 34 grs and working up. Accuracy shows promise. I have not chronographed any loads yet. Curious if anyone else has used RL17 in the 250 Sav.

I have a stable full of 250s. I settled on H-414 as the powder for the 250-3000, bolt rifle or Savage 99s...Its fastest and most accurate in all my guns, it meters awesome, and I seldom weigh a charge as it fills a case to the neck junction.. I would like to find and old mod. Savage mod 20 bolt rifle in 250-3000, they are so lean and mean. I had a couple back when they were around, but seems they all have permanent homes these days and hard to find in 250.. Did a little more shooting with 75 and 100 gr bullets. The 75 gr hornady is grouping just under an inch with 4320. Tried the 100 gr Speer bullets with RL17. Started @ 34 grs and worked up. 34 ,35 & 36 grs were just so-so about 1 1/4 inch. 37 was a little tighter.38 grs was under an inch. 39 grs is near max in my rifle and the groups dropped to 1/2 to 5/8 inch. Haven't chronographed this load but I think I will stop at that for the 100 gr.
