I konw that the .30-338 Win Mag has been around a long time. If any of you have worked with this cartridge and have some pet loads for the Sierra 168 gr MK and the 180 gr MK please send them to me at jads@citlink.net I have a Remington 40XKS chambered for this cartridge and will startloading for it soon. Thanks

Well, I don't have a 30-338 (passed on one on a Ruger 77 just last month, too expensive), but you can use 308 Norma mag data. The case capacities are almost identical. Hope this helps - Dan

Have a friend who has a Hart barreled Rem 700 in the .30-.338 mag. He uses .308 Norma info and has done well. His is quite accurate but I'm sure the work Hart put into it between the barrell, glass stock, blueprinted action etc surely helped.

Not trying to make any judgements just my two cents.....why not just get any of the other more popular .300 mags? It would make life a bit easier. And I can't see any big advantage or gain anywhere with the cartridge versus say a .300 win or even a Wby.

This is a little late but I am cruising old threads for new info.
My 30-338 is built on a Winchester 54 with a simple re-chamber job. It is truly the most accurate rifle I shoot. Just a lucky find.
I consistently use the Sierra 165 gr. with 69 gr. of 4350. It is a great hunting combo and allowed me to take a nice 3x at a 400 yds.plus. Can't say enough about rangefinders either. Bushnell 600.

Frank: It seems that you have found a rifle you are happy to hunt with, and in my opinion that's something not all hunters are lucky enough to experience. Confidence on your .30-338 will just grow as you continue shooting it and your degree of proficiency with it develops. If it continues that way, some day you will call it your "trusty" rifle and it will he hard for you to depart from it.

I also use the .308 Norma Mag data for my .30/.338 and it does the job nicely. It's a great cartridge! There is something about the .338 case that I find appealing.... I also have a .338 and a .375/.338.

Ray, you are right about confidence. I tend to reach for the 54 first when I head out whether for deer or bear (they tend to be smaller here so I don't feel undergunned).I also truly enjoy the feel of the winchester and the smoothness of the bolt travel makes it very easy to shoot. It carries a Leupold VXll in 2-7 which is also what I have on at least 6 other rifles.
I've occasionally felt that I should try some heavier loads- maybe 180's but why mess with what works.
