I have the hornady sixth addition and am comparing it to the 2007 hodgdon manual, I loaded up some 110 grain v-max loads using 58 grains h4350 using the hornady manual the data for this bullet shows 53.8 grains as the starting load and 60.1 grains as the max load. The hornady manual has the same data for the 110 v-max and the 110 grain hp. The hodgdon manual only list the hp,but the loads should be the same for both bullets. Hodgons starting load with h4350 and 110 grain hp is 59 grains and max is 63.0 grains, thats almost a 3 grain difference in max loads wich is blowing my mind. Both manuals list as using 24 in barrels winchester cases and win lrm primers. The hornady manual list a win model 70 as a test gun and the hodgdon manual dosnt say what gun was used. Almost all of hodgdons 270 wsm loads for light and heavier bullets have 1-3 grain higher max loads, I compared other calibers in both manuals and they have no big differences like the wsm does. Does anyone know the reason for the differences?,could it be because the wsm was new when the hornady sixth came out and they had limited testing?

It's a very good reason why we check several sources of data and get the "RANGE" of max loads.....it's why we always "WORK UP" to the max for our rifle!!!!!

It would be nice of there was a "CAST IN STONE" max load for each cartridge.....we could dispense with chronographs and a lot of manuals......but we must discover the load for OUR RIFLE!.....not the rifle used to test the load at Hornady or Hodgdons.....(which are both very good sorces of data)

I've found examples where I could not reach the max listed.....no big deal.....get on with life and go hunting!
