Has anyone tried this combo, on alliant's website they show a 200 grn at around 3150 fps. Has anyone actually been able to get this kind velocity with re 25 in the 8mm?

Sounds about right.

I haven't fooled with the 200 grain bullets, but I can get 3000+ fps with the 220s out of a factory 24 inch barrel.

Thanks,
I have some reloader 22 lying around and im thinking of trying that until it runs dry.

What bullets would you recomend in 200 or 220 grn weights for elk and (hopefully) plains game in Africa? I was leaning towards the swift A-frames or barnes X.

I've shot R-25 and R-22 in mine and that barrel likes R-22 for some reason, with a 210 gr. bullet.

Usually you'll get the best accuracy from an "alomst" full load in the case, depending on barrel length.

R-22 gives that and proves that for me.
