Iam about to load some rounds for a friend for his 300 Rum
and before anyone says its too much gun,My friend had to down size due to hard times And decided to have one rifle to do all.I decided to ask what you guys what you
thought before ordering the bullets and powder.
The rifle is a Rem 700 bdl 26'' barrel, wood stock.
He hunts over a soy bean feild were shots can be 25 yards
out to 400yards.Now this rifle shoots 180 gn bullets well
but thought a lighter bullet would reduce recoil some what.
Would like a bullet that would hold together fairly well
at 100 and a good B.C. , cost under 35.00 per 100.
What powder to fill the case and still get 3300 fps.
Any one loaded 150 or 165 gn and had good results?
Thanks Reloaderlen

Len, I'd go with the 165 Interbond, don't think he'll notice the difference in recoil between that and a 180 Interbond, which is what I'd shoot for the minimum weight bullet in a 300RUM, for powder, try RE25, Retumbo, believe that IMR4350 worked well for Nosler in most of their bullet weights. Though they only tried 2 different powders, check link.http://nosler.com/bulletpage.asp?g=2050

Quoted from Hodgdon basic Reloading Manual "RETUMBO- This magnum powder was designed expressly for the really large overbored cartridges such as 7mmRUM, 300RUM, 30-378 Weatherby magnum, etc. RETUMBO adds 40-100fps more velocity to these cartridges when compared to other normal magnum powders. In addition to being a EXTREME powder which can be used in all types of conditions.

I'd buy a pound of this and RE25, if it were me, RE25 takes 96 for a max., RETUMBO 100.5. This being with 180 grain bullet. Jay

len,
I use 165gr. Part. in my 300 RUM. with RL-22 and have had real good luck with it.

Saeed worked with the 300 RUM several years ago with several different powders and bullet weights. You can go to the reloading pages and check it out.
