Why no loads? Burning rate between 4831 and W780.
Works great in a 30" bbl 25-06, nothing else will push an 80 gr TTSX @4000 fps.
Just bought some Barnes "green" 85 gr .277s that should vaporize varmints. Loading some up with 4831 specs and taking the Chrony to the range tomorrow.
Anyone got any pet loads for it in the 270 ?

Rem brass, Federal 215 primers, 150g Partition, H4831 powder start at 55g work up slowly. I get 3030 fps out of our 22" barreled Rem 700 BDLs in 270 Win. 57g gives 2910 fps

Chuck

Chuck, thanks, but I'm no stranger to 4831 going back to the 30 pound kegs @50 cents a pound.

In my 25-06 HSP will produce velocity that no other powder can equal.Perhaps a lucky match of 30" bbl, 1 in 13 twist, light but long for weight TTSX, But going 5 gr heavier in bullet, albeit with a shorter barrel with a slightly larger hole is worth checking out.

Your velocity with 150s in 22" barrels are exceptional (see current Handloader).

Thanks again.

I recently chrono'd the 57g load out of both of my son's 270s (they're identical BDLs one right handed I bought in 68 for myself, the other a left handed one I bought for father in law in the 80s that was handed down to my oldest left handed son (that was part of the deal) about 10 years ago. That 57g load clocked at just over 2900 fps out of both rifles. My own load (which I don't advise and don't load for my sons) was 58.5g and does exceed 3000 fps. I've used that load in the right handed BDL for over 40 years and have never had any pressure signs. It shoots sub .5 MOA with it too. Good luck in your search!

Chuck

I don't know if your still talking about 4831, I still use the ancient JOC load OR HSP.

Loaded some of the new Barnes 85 gr .277 XGP.
5 each, 58, 60 and 62 gr with the BOSS screwed all the way down (1.1 in the setting for 130s, 2.5 for 150s)

58 gr =ed 3"
60 gr =ed 1.25" (3 in one hole)
62 gr =ed 1.5"

Bolt lift and primers (under a loupe) were all the same.

Gonna keep pushing it and set up the chrony.

Barnes gets 3770 with 56.5 4320. I know HSP is slower and from my experience in the 25-06 with 80 TTSXs that HSP can produce higher velocities than any other powder in long (30") barrels with slow 1 in 13 twist.

Whether the 20" (rifled length) in the 270 M70 BOSS and 1 in 10 twist will do well, only testing will tell.
