Anyone try the new LabRadar yet?

They claim...

"The chronograph era is over. LabRadar is the world’s newest technology in obtaining projectile velocities of Rifles, Shotguns, Handguns, Pellet Guns, BB Guns, Bow & Arrows, Crossbows.

Doppler Radar is the most precise method of measuring velocities available. Its accuracy is not dependant on light conditions or being exactly parallel to photo electric sensors resulting in false readings.

•No shooting through a small confined area.

•No dealing with optimal lighting conditions.

•No stopping the firing line to set up and take down equipment.

•Easy set up.

•Place LabRadar beside the shooter, point towards the target and you’re ready to go.

•Track and obtain true velocities continuously up to 100 yards."

I have been following these for a while. Got tired of waiting and bought a MagnetoSpeed. The LabRadar looks even easier than the MagnetoSpeed. I am very interested to see if it works as advertised.

Brian Enos did a review on his website. The labradar would not read 22 caliber bullets (223) and had a high number of missed shots from his 308 rifle.

I don't think that they have all the bugs worked out yet.

I got the same emails. I'm concerned that some bugs likely remain, and if there are bugs, it'll be an expensive mistake.

The red flag that there might be problems is that the manufacturer has had trouble getting the item on the market...not a good start.

kind of -- the PRICE change bothered me ,but, on the tech -- no red flags at all.. this is TECH not machinery -- which means 0.9, 1.0, 1.0.1, and 1.0.2 are all going to be buggy -- then 1.1 will be released, and, with a reduced feature set, everything available will work.

i am surprised that they didn't do a go fund me on this, or other startup approach

I have offered to join early adopters programs in/with several alpha, beta, and pre-release/release candidate programs... I was on the windows 10 beta before most of the world knew there was a beta.. but when prices go up, without discussion, i back out... *I* KNOW i am going to have a buggy/bad code with firmware issues, and will be highly intimate with the behind the doors technical issues --- and I do place a value on my time... jacking the price up put it past my tolerence

I would like to try one of these when they get the bugs sorted out. It appeals to me that:

No chronograph setup in front of the muzzle to shoot the unit, blow the screens off etc.,
Less chance of false readings due to muzzle blast,

Can do double rifle velocity, load development without impact change that the Magnetospeed might induce.

Looking forward to more feedback from users.

well, they finally have their code to an okay level - I have an order, from midway no less --- midwayusa has a TOUGH vendor agreement, and they should get their sooner than most...

it doesn't have a program for L R barrels, as far as I know

jeffeosso...has your Labradar arrived yet?

I just ordered one from Midway but I won't see it til the next production run is complete. At least that's how it appears on the LabRadar website. (spring 2016)

Would have ordered it from LabRadar directly but their shipping cost to Alaska is ridiculous. Midway doesn't have such a draconian shipping arrangement.

Yes I am interested too. My CED does great but less set up and Magnum blast would be great if it works well. I am also concerned some about it recording others around you shots ( which I prefer not to do) when you use it at a rifle range. I just don't want to have to sort out my shots from others.

Got mine yesterday. Waited several months but bought it directly from the company. Look forward to trying it as either I or my sons have shot every chronograph I have owned. The magneto speed was inconsistent in recording shots. May even try the Labradar in the basement with a solid backstop I have.

I think that I own the world record. I bought a PACT Model 1 in 1984, the processer gave up last year but I still have the original sky screens.

Used the Labradar at the range recently. Bought two of their accessories, a battery pack and the bench stand. It was so easy to set up and use. Great information and easier to use than ant chronograph I,have owned and have owned them all.

One note though, it will not record velocities over 3900 fps. My son had some 204 Ruger Ammo thought to be 4000 fps and we could not record velocities for those rounds. Other than that, it is a superb chronograph and worth the cost.

I hadn't heard that before.

I shoot the Barnes 36 grain Varmint Grenades out of my 22.250AI and I'm shooting 4300fps+ with them.

Is anyone going to write up a full report?

Will it read 17 caliber bullets (is there a minimum detection size)?
Will bullets from the next bench affect the readings?
Does the sun position or moving background (wind) affect the readings?
Is there a minimum/maximum velocity limit?
Where does it read velocities? (10 ft from the muzzle, 100 yards from the muzzle?)
How do you get true muzzle velocities?
Can you set a range for it to read, to get down range velocities?

Thanks,

Frank

Will bullets from the next bench affect the readings? Yes, in rare instances. You will have to identify and delete the readings manually
Does the sun position or moving background (wind) affect the readings? No influence from the sun, moving background not addressed but from the text the beam is very focused so I would assume that the background shouldn't matter
Is there a minimum/maximum velocity limit? No minimum in Doppler mode but maximum detectable velocity not addressed
Where does it read velocities? (10 ft from the muzzle, 100 yards from the muzzle?) From muzzle to the maximum detection distance for the different sized projectiles in 1 Ft increments (this is great)
How do you get true muzzle velocities? Set at start of set up.
Can you set a range for it to read, to get down range velocities? Yes, as far as detectable.

Thanks,

Frank

I bought a LabRadar and used it today...this thing is fantastic.

Appears to be very accurate and measure velocities at 5 different points out to ~100 yds.

The velocity decrements were so consistent that I was able to measure G1 or G7 BCs that correlated very closely with Bryan Litz's data.

To get readings you need to set it up next to the barrel within inches, if possible;and, line it up with the target accurately, which can be a bit an issue.

I recommend it.
