Eric, Very good shooting (and loading). At those velocities you might consider a premium bullet, matter of fact inside 200 yards you'd probably need a monolithic Barnes or GS Custom to stay together. Those SGKs tend to splatter on a shoulder hit if above 3000 at impact. Don

i used the 165 SGK at 3425 last year. killed a 200 pound whitetail at 225 yards and bullet performance was perfect.thought i would try the 150s to get a little better trajactory and a little less recoil. i think the sierra will be fine for whitetail but i may try the Hornady 150 SST, it has a higher b.c. and is supposed to be a little tougher.BTW this ultra thing is not all hype it really will reach way out there.flatter than my 25-06 with more energy at 500 than the 25 at 100.

Don i went back to my balistic explorer and checked the 165 load. it drops to 3000 at 150 yards the 150 load is still at 3000 to past 250. so maybe i will try the 150 nosler in case i get a close shot. the 150s are easier to shoot. shot 5 gallon milk jugs this morning at 400,just lay the crosshairs level with the lid and centered all 5. got boring after a while think i will try 500 this evening.hope the 150 nosler shoots as good as the sierra, if so i will pratice with the game king and hunt the partitions.

Good shooting Eric! I have a 700 LSS and shoots the 180 Scirocco handloads at 1" at 200 yds. I use 88.5 gr imr 7828 and the're going 3250 fps. I always wanted to play with the lighter bullets in this gun! ------------------

Eric, I don't think you'll regret the Nosler partition. Don

tried the jugs at 500 and hit 3 of 5. at 500 with 300 zero it drops 19 inches at 500 thats where the fat part starts on the 3.5 to 10x50 leupold. really not much to it after you do it a few times.that 150 load really smokes.

Don i saw in another post that you have the quick load. would you run this load to see how much pressure i am looking at. 150 Sierra Game King fed 210 GM, 96.5 gr RL 22.in the 300 RUM. borrowed dads Hart pedastal rest today and shot 3-3 shot groups at 300 avg 1.65 inches center to center.

If I had a hat I'd be eating it. Allways sat laughing to myself about magnum mania so am fairly impressed to read this. Just goes to show it's horses for courses. I do however still have a wry smile when I see people at the range in the UK shooting rifles like this (.270booboo etc)when I know they're not going to be shooting much past 250 and at animals a lot under 400lbs.

ERIC: What make/model is your 300 RUM? Thanx ------------------

What case is the 300 RUM based on.

<Don G> |
Eric, Sorry I did not see your request before. Quickload predicts 61,000 PSI, and 3515 fps in a 26 inch barrel. The case is rated for 65,000 PSI so you are at a max useable pressure level. I used a Sierra SPBT #2125, I'm not sure that's a GameKing. PD, The RUM case is a new one, but it's roughly based on a 404 Jeff, with a rebated rim. pop,the gun is a 700BDL SS with a 3.5 to 10x50 leupold and shillen trigger set to 1.5 lbs. 1894 the longest shot i ever made on a deer was 420 yards. i may never have to shoot anything that far again, but if i do i am very confidant in being able to make the shot.
