In the past I've been shooting either H4831 or RL-22, depending on bullet weight, for my .300WM with bullet weight ranges from 168gr to 190grs.

I just ordered some Berger 210gr VLDs and was wondering if those two powders might be a tad too fast for the 210's? What is the general concensus? I was thinking of going with a slower powder (not saying I need another powder on my bench).

I'm thinking with that long bullet you may not be able to have the case capacity to go with much slower powders? mabye re25 or h1000 but that would probably be about it. If you email berger you will get their recomended loads within a day. Let us know how the project turns out as I'm also thinking of playing with the same bullet.

Any of these will work well:

Re22, 25
H1000, Retumbo

The rifle has a Hart barrel on it. When I sent the rifle to be rebarreled I specifically stated to chamber the rifle for the longer 210 gr VLD's. SO, I think I should be OK on that. I was just thinking that maybe with a heavier bullet I should go with a bit slower powder. Seems like after some research on other sites that H1000 might be the trick. I just wanted to know what others thought of the slower powders for this weight bullet.

I almost always use a slower powder with bigger bullets. H1000 is one of my all time favorites. There has never been a time in over 20 years when I've not had some on hand. I really think you should consider Retumbo as well.

Anytime I do testing with big bullets, I have always tried these 3: H1000, Retumbo, and Re25.
