I want to make .223 loads equal to 22 Hornet ballistics. Im shooting near town and need lower noise levels. Can I just go below minumum recomended powder charges? Or do I have to use a different powder? Right now im using 26.0 grains of Reloader 15 behind a 50gr ballistic tip.about 2850 fps-2900 fps and id like it to be around 2650 fps at the most.Id like a couple of different powders to try. thanks guys your real knowledgeable.

12 grains of Blue Dot behind any bullet from 40 grains to 55 grains will give you 2600 fps.The reduction in recoil tho will not cycle a bolt on an AR. cheers and good shooting seafire

1. Seafire has done the research on Blue dot, it works well. 2. one of the 4198's would be my second choice. 3. H322 would be my third choice. Likely velocity spreads will increase when reducing slower powders. If you use Blue dot, be sure your loading practices will not allow a double charge, it will fit. Just ask and you will get a variety of opinions on just how to accomplish this. Travis F.

12-14 grains of IMR 4227 and any 45 grain bullet is a fine reduced 223 load, very accurate.

I've been experimenting with 7.5gr Unique under a bulk 45gr Remington HP in .223. Been getting pretty good field accuracy in my NEF with it. It's probably just a shade lighter than the load you are looking for at 2169fps (Lyman numbers). Took it out blasting sage rats last week. This load seems to be just a shade LESS destructive on simple chest shots (compared to 22 Win Mag 40gr Hp) and a fair shade MORE destructive on lengthwise shots.
