i recently got into reloading and have been using 45.7 grains of imr 3031 behind a 130 grain sst.my groups are 5 inches at 150 yards! i bought some imr 4350 yesterday and im going to be using a 110 grain v-max bullet or the 130 grain sst. can anyone tell me what the most accurate load with this powder will be? thanks
I use hornady 140gr BTSP with 52.3gr of IMR4350.COL is 3.30"{mag limited} and WLR primers. My remington mtn rifle shoots these to sub MOA 3 shot groups. This is a max load in the hornady manual I am using.Start low and work up.

EXACTLY what AAdams says. for the 130 grain weight bullets, 53 to 55 grains of IMR4350 will work for most rifles. Work up from slightly less than 53 and work up in .5 grain incriments to 55 (watch for pressure signs near 55). IMR 4350 is also outstanding for 150 grain bullets for all 270s I have reloaded for as well (I prefer the 150 grain bullets). If you are dead set on the 130 grain bullets and 4350 doesn't work, try H4831 and RL22. But I have NEVER loaded for a 270 that didn't like 4350 behind a 150 grain bullet (from 50 to 52 grains of 4350). My rifles have liked having the bullets seated to the lands, but not too far in if at all. As always, vary seating depth AFTER a good load is found.

My .270 doesn't like IMR 4350 too much, it does like slightly slower powders such as IMR 4831, RL22, and H450. Furthermore, it shoots 150gr loads more consistently than 130gr loads. My pet load is 56grs H4831, Hornady 150gr SP Interlocks, Win brass, and Fed 210 primers. Not a prairie scorcher, but it keeps my M70 Featherweight consistently in the low .6s for 3 shots, penetrates well and doesn't tear up meat badly.
The best 130 gr load I came up with used Nosler Ballistic Tips in front of 58gr RL 22. Win brass showed no excessive pressure signs, but Rem brass did. Work up load slowly. Exceptionally accurate but the bullet is way too fragile IMHO (I'll stick with Interlocks and Partitions). I tried IMR 4350 and could not keep groups under 2 inches @ 100 yds.
Just goes to show, each rifle is a little different and loads that will shoot "bugholes" in one, may only "pattern" in another.

well i tried the nosler ballistics and they were worse than the ones now i got a few 130 sst's loaded with 53 grains of imr4350 hopefully these will shoot better than the 3031 did.
My 130 grain load is 55.5 grains of IMR 4350 and my 150 grain load is 53.5 grains of it. This in two Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbines with 20" barrels and 1/9" twist. The MV of the 130 grain load is 2990 FPS and the 150 goes 2880. Agreed, my barrels are too short. But the game I have shot with theses rifles has never complained.
53.5gr of IMR 4350 and a 150gr Interlock is my only load I use in my 270. I had intended to try Rel22 and 4831 but hey, when something works, why trouble yourself with extra powders.
