For those that have loaded rifle cartridges with this powder, what have your experiences been. I am interested in accuracy, pressure, consistency and velocity as compared to other powders. Also, do you still use it, or was there something better after further experimentation?

Thank you

I use it in my .270WSM, and probably would use it in my 6.5x55 and .243 Win. if it wasn't so expensive. It was extremely consistent in all loadings in my experience. It seems very temperature tolerant, as well. If I could get it for less than $25 per lb, I would consider using it for everything. My cheap nature prevents it. I found a reasonable substitute in Accurate Data 86 extruded from Powder Valley. Got 24 lbs of it for around $9.50 per lb. delivered. Works fine in all calibers mentioned, but I still use the Vihtavuori N-165 in my .270WSM as my no. 1 hunting rifle.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

I keep finding deals on it at gun shows. I love it.

It's never been a top velocity producer, but I'm not a velocity nut either. It is probably the cleanest burning powder out there (VV in general) and accuracy is repeatable. I've loaded it in my 270, 7mag and a 300 WM when I used to own one.

I will always keep some on hand, as well as N160, N560. In fact, JB recommended I use N160 in my 6.5x284.

It is the go to powder for the 6.5X284. I know about five guys that shoot it in their 1,000 yard BR rifles. They really like it. I shoot it in my Encore 6.5X284 long range ground hog rifle. 400-600 yards. Tom.

I use VN165 in my 7 mm RM and in my 280. I also load my 300 WSM with the powder. Though I use many other powders, this is a favourite. It is a clean, consistent burn in each of these rifles, and several others in addition. These each have hunting loads prepared with VN165.
