HAs anybody used these or heard of them. It is a plug that you put in the gun chamber and it is supposed to release some type of chemical gas that mixes with the moisture and oxygen in the air. This supposedly stops the corrosion process.????? Have a friend who gave me a few of them, but he had never used them either Simdow

I have never seen the product you are referring to, but we (at my day job) use VCI corrosion inhibitors by the case for sealing inside industrial electronics housings. They work very well, IF they are in a sealed, airtight compartment. If they are open to air, so the active components are free to dissipate, they last days to weeks only. The better the air seal, the longer they will work. We keep transmitters/process instrumentation running on the decks of oil rigs and on desert seashores in the middle east running for decades with no sign of corrosion...when we can keep good seals and get the operators to close the damn things up when they finish working on them ('nuther story!). They will not really STOP corrosion either, just keep it from getting a good start...and the enclosure needs to be dry when installed... For use in a gun, I don't see any advantage ofer more 'traditional' corrosion control methods, except not requiring removal from a stock, maybe. Where they might have good application is long storage, if you were to vacuum seal the gun in a bag of some sort, or close it into a Pelican type case. I would read the directions and see what was recommended, then use them up and see what results you get. They will not hurt anything for sure... Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.
