Question:
I am taking an informal poll of those handloaders that have experience loading 200 grain bullets in the .300 Winchester Magnum. Personally I have had good luck with H1000.

Choices:
H1000
H4831 (regular or SC)
IMR 7828
RL 22
Other (Please list)

I shot IMR-4831, and IMR-7828 for years then along came RL-22 any my accuracy improved in my rifle. I shoot it exclusively now and have a gaggle of Elk hunting buddies who use it also. thumb Good shooting.

I voted for RL-22 but that's only for when I'm loading a 180 gr bullet. When shooting a 200 gr, like I'll have with me in Africa, I use RL-25.

The 200 grainer is where the .300 win

starts to shine!!!!

I loaded 1 for years and my best was chronographed at 2900 fps.

75.0 grains of RL-22
200 grain Partition
CCI250 primer

I shot this in a Remington 700 and it was a Bone crushing killer but that Remington would

KNOCK the snot out of anyone who shot it

But In my buddies Model 70 it was not so bad. thumbIt had a straighter stock and a
better recoil pad.

H414. One grain below maximum with a 150-grain bullet made a Ruger 77 literally a one-hole rifle at 100. And there ain't anything in TX that I can't kill with the right 150-grain bullet out of a .300 Win Mag.
(But I still prefer my 308 Norma...)

Yeah, I like H 1000, with a stiff charge with a 220 grain Round Nose the best....

MV is about 2950....

It is a HOT load.... but flat shooting, even with being a round nose.... and accurate!

cheers

YUP 26 inch barrel.. Browning A Bolt....

of course a ton of guys in here think I am nuts anyway!

Never has shown any pressure problems and I have loaded the same pieces of brass 5 times with that load and full length sized them each time....

someone with quick load ought to shine a little light on how fast... I rreally got to get off my duff and order quick load.... DUK sent me a copy from Germany, bless his heart.... but it would not open for me... password protected or something.....

We just did some testing once with some Nosler 220 grain Partitions... the penetration was overly impressive with that set up at 300 yds....

Just shooting some of the metal gongs at the range at 300 and 400 yards, the "clang" really got people's attention on the shooting line....

Most of my elk hunting is done with other calibers, but I usually have the 300 Mag and that load with it in the truck every Elk season...

The rifle wears a 4 x 40 scope is all, but for 300 yds and Elk size game that is all it needs...

If ya try it, work up there Cal30. 1906, sofa but I am sure being from Idaho, you are smart enough to know that! Big Grin

Cheers
