Placing an order for brass/bullets/dies at Graffs. They do not list 6.5x57 die sets. They do have a 6.5x257Roberts die set. Are they the same? My rifle is an original Mauser chambered for the 6.5x57 round?

I have not had my coffe yet but I believe the 6.5x57 and the 6.5X257 are not the same. the 6.5x257 is basically the 7x57 necked down. I was thinking there was some differences in the shoulder area between the 7x57 and 6.5x57.

As usual just my $.02

Yes, no, and maybe.
There are many variations to this cartridge as it is not a SAAMI standard.
Most will claim necking down the 7x57 is safer than necking up a 257. Buying new brass?
To be 100% sure, you need a chamber cast to know what you have.

The 6.5x57 as loaded by S&B is not the same as a 6.5/257 Robts. The shoulder angle is slightly shallower & the neck therefore slightly shorter than would be the case simply necking down the 7x57. My older Hornady manual (3rd ed) has it in it & shows this. I think the latest has it too. (sorry, don't have it, browing in the sports shop) Smiler

why don't you buy it somewhere else?

Look here

The 6.5 X 57 is a standard cartridge and dies are available

I shoot a 6.5 x 57...

that is my favorite round...

if you have any questions and want to talk to someone who knows, instead of general forum speculation, then drop me a PM with your specific questions...

I have helped a few other guys out that have purchased one.. or inherited one...

RCBS, REDDING, Forester, all make 6.5 x 257 and 6.5 x 57 dies...

both cartridges are not the same, as the shoulder angle differs.. but depending on your chamber, they are incorrectly imprinted on the barrel all the time...
