Time to start training and hunting with my 375 H&H M70 Super Grade. How better to get to know the rifle I plan to use some day on buffalo than to make it my go to gun? Been thinking a 225 gr Hornady spitzer @ 2500 fps would pick up where my 30'06 220s leave off. I'l work up from there but for now it looks like IMR 3031 will do to start with. Any other ideas are welcome.
You can also use Hornady's 220 flat point designed for the .375 winchester round. It's more closely designed for whitetails. You can also drive it from 2,000 to 2,800'/sec according to Hornady data.
It should provide very mild recoiling shooting for the big bore and allow for a lot of fun as well.

The Speer 235grain soft is very nice with a moderate charge of IMR 3031, extremely accurate as well. On whitetails, I have used the trophy bonded bearclaws in 240 grain I purchased from Jack Carter years ago, but am down to only a couple of boxes there. IMR 3031 or 4064 once again. I am excited to try the Nosler 260 grain offering in the Accubond, but will only be hunting with the .30-06 this year ( I have several)for the anniversary. Good luck and good hunting.

Congratulations on your new rifle! Iam doing the same thing with my new 375 H&H winnie. So far i have loaded the 220fn & 225 hornadys. They shoot great and are lots of fun.I use H4895 powder and have shot up to 70gr. in the 225,67gr. with the 220fn.For a really mild load i used AA5744 powder & 41gr. with the 220fn,the power was equel to the 375winchester or the 35marlin,2100fps i think, great accuracy & super low recoil & FUN .Iam starting to shoot start loads now in the 270gr.hornady with 63 gr.H4895 and should be getting 2400fps.&recoil feels like a 20gauge shotgun, very user friendly. All my reloading data can be found on steves pages! Thanks steve for a wonderful site,i have enjoyed it!If i had known how easy the 375H&H is to reload for i would have started out with it years ago and never looked back!Good Luck & hope this helps!

I would think about kepping it ready for big game by just using a 300gr hornady FMJ. IT would go right through both lungs and heart and not make a mess. Then when its time for some real big game just load up some round nose soft points.

I have not used any of the lighter bullets in my 375, but for cheap practice bullets the 300gr Hornady RN and the 300gr sierra gameking shoot exellent in my rifle. Maybe something to try once you start shooting the heavier bullets. I can get 2500fps using W-W 760, and have recently starting testing H4350 which gives me around 60+ fps than 760. My barrel is 23" so my velocity is slower than most manuels. Hopefully something you can use later on. Enjoy

The boys from Fish & Game take a dim view of hunting whitetails with FMJs. Yesterday I put up my first batch of Hornady 225s over an escalating range of IMR3031 charges that ought to start the spirepoint softs at 2500-2700 fps.
Hey Jackfish.....we shot some skeet in your town today.....great range there.
