Since Reloader powders dropped RL-12, can anyone tell me of a powder with the same burning rate?

Ray, this is the closest to the burnrate listed by Hodgdon's website and if someone can say that one of these are the identical powder I'd be skeptical.....sometimes the typewriter is faster than the eye ....so to speak.

Alliant's RL-10x should fall between W748 and BLC-2 in burn rate. Which puts it slightly faster than RL-12...was.

VIHTAVUORI

N135

"Extremely good for DCM/Service Rifle AR's With all bullet weights.

This is a moderate burning propellant. It will fit applications similar to Alliant Reloader 12, IMR 4895 or IMR 4064. Applications range from the .17 Remington to the .458 Winchester."

waveRay, on two different burning rate scheduled RL 12 is bracketed by W748 and Vihtavuori,N135, followed by IMR4064. roger

I'm suffering the same problem, since RL12 was my favorite for the .458WinMag.

Despite this, I'll try Reloder 10x, maybe a little faster, but slower thatn Reloder 7, so in my opinion a better one

Ray, in that burn rate, also consider Ramshot X-terminator (slightly faster) and Tac (slightly slower). Also like Benchmark in that range. Sportman's carries the Ramshot powder, and it is fairly temp-stable, easy metering and very clean. HTH, Dutch.

Ray, the burn rates change from cartridge to cartridge and with different pressures, and I`m sure you realize there is no way of knowing how much difference there is between powder "A" on the charts and powder "B". I`d take a look in a couple of manuals and see what powders give the same range of velocity with similar charge wgts to R12 and go from there.

Do give AA 2230 a try in the 458. It is a dense ball powder with the right burn rate and it is consistent in big bores with heavy bullets.

Both the Reloader line and the Norma line are made by the same manufacturer (Nobel, I think). Several of their powders are made to the same specs, such as RL 22 and Norma 205 (although, as with lots, there is a variation between corresponding powders). I don't know if Norma has been marketing a "twin" of RL 12, but you might check. Of course, if Alliant is dropping RL 12, it would likely mean that the suppler is not making it anymore, so it would not be available in a Norma counterpart, either.

R12 no longer shows here but it might help you break down your hunt or be of help to you later on.

Unfortunatley no such animal exists. I usually like IMR-4895 as an alternative.

10X is a different "rate" but has similar burn "characteristics" if you will, in that it is very similar in manufacturing process.
