A verry simple question.....what is the correct bullet diameter for the 38-55 Winchester? /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I don't know that the word "correct" even applies... there are rifle barrels out there that take anywhere between .376" and as large as .382", depending on maker. The guys I know typically shoot .378" or .379"... I presume you are talking about a cast bullet? | |||

I'm toying with the idea of purchasing a new Model 94 in 38-55.....and thank you....I'd be interewsted in using a jacketed bullet. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." There is no exact bullet diameter for this old round. Just remember this cartridge is a true .38 it is not a .375. They vary from .377 to .382. Tis a fact of life. Mine is .380 on the button. You need to slug the bore to know. My .375 Marlin (1981) measures .3778 and it is supposed to be a .375. I would not count on a jacketed bullet unless your are lucky.
