Sorry if this has been asked before. I just purchased a 30-06 (never owbned one as I have stuck to smaller calibers for my shooting/hunting) and I am looking for an accurate 150 grain load (to keep recoil down). I would prefer to stay with either H380 or H4350 and I am wide open for bullet selection. The load will be used for whitetail deer only and I am also interested in an accurate load for paper punching out to 400 yards at the range. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

I would suggest a load that delivers around 2700 fps,the old 30/06 standard load.i used nosler ballistic tip bullets and imr 4320 and it was very accurate, and very low pressure.I forget the exact amount of powder, but I was trying to match the old military load velocity of 2700,so the graduations on the adjustable sights would be on.i found a load in the manual that was close to 2700 fps, and it worked perfectly.

You didn't say wether it was a bolt or auto/
In my rem 742 I allways used IMR 4064 (52.5 grs) with the horady 150 gr.
In my rem mtn rifle I use IMR 4350 (57.5 grs) and 165's
For the 150's I used R-15 (53.6 grs) and the hornady 150 or the sst 150

All ways work up.

Sorry, it is a Winchester model 70 left hand bolt action. Just had to buy it as they are no longer being made and the price was right as the gun store was getting rid of them.

The first problem your going to have by asking such a question is, every one has their own "magic" combination.
My 30-06 prefers a 150gr Nosler BT over 61.5gr of RL-19, lit by a WLR primer and all fitted into a REM case. I'm getting 2995 out of that combo (Nosler claims 3000), and 1/2MOA average groups.
That's both a book and a real max load, so work up to it.

20shadow05, I was looking for a 150gr. load one time, called Sierra bullets and the load that they gave me was, the load that Owensby gave you 48-52gr. of IMR 4064 with the 150gr. bullet

6.5 SWEDE.

Gidday 20shadow05,

My Remington 700 loves 150 BTs over 53gr IMR4064 win LR primers and shoots under an inch all day.

It is lethal to all critters hit where it is vital and accurate enough for varminting.

Start at 50gr and work up until you find the sweet spot.

Happy Hunting

Every rifle is different but, I've had luck with H4895 pushing 150s. H4350 is a good one as well.

Good Luck

4350 is an excellent powder for the .30-06 (I have had unsatisfactory results the several times I have tried H-380). It's hard to "overload" a .30-06 with 150 grain bullets and any of the 4350, but start with about 57 grains under your choice of 150 grain spitzers. Chances are that either the Sierra Gameking or Nosler Ballistic Tip will offer the best accuracy, but there are other good bullets which may do well in your gun. As to terminal performance, any 150 grain .30 caliber bullet will do fine on whitetails.

please do yourself a favor and go get a loading manual or 3. look them over before you take anything on the net for granted. some of the guys know what they are doing and the loads are excellent, but then again some don't.

My Tikka Whitetail loves 56.6gr. of IMR 4350 under Hornady 150gr spire point Interlocks. I use Win large rifle primers and Rem cases. It will shoot 1" groups with great regularity. The load shoots around 2750fps over the chrony. I would think that H4350 would probably work equally well although you might have to play with the charge.

I doubt that you can find a better powder than IMR 4064 for 150 gr. bullets in the 30-06.

Howdy
I have two 3006 rifles both shoot less than moa with remington brass , Federal 210 primers, 57.6 gr of IMR 4350 and 150 accubond bullets . One is a 98 mauser loaded .010 from the lands and one is a remington 700 bdl loaded a long way from the lands. The throat is looong on the remmy and the magazine is also a limiter.
Free floated barrel , Aluminum pillars and glass bedding made the difference on both of these rifles. Neither gun would shoot this load or any other better than 2 in. @ 100 yds. Next gun I buy or build will get the treatment befor I wast to much time or expensive reloading components proving it won't shoot the way it is. I do know guys that have got lucky and did'nt have to do anything to get em to shoot.

I've got a Husky H-5000 30-06 that loves 150's and IMR4350. 59gr in front of a Nosler Solid Base gives me 2960. Keeps them around 3/4" regularly.

I agree with butchloc, get yourself some manuals, at least one. This hobby can and will be dangerous if you are not careful.
