Looking to start reloading for rifle and really like some of the things I have been hearing about the Hornady 130 gr. SST (.277). I will be shooting these primarily at Whitetail and the occasional Mule Deer in Arkansas, Texas, and New Mexico. Rifles are Ruger M77 Mark II and Ruger No. 1 A-B. Anybody have experience with similar set ups or care to offer new guy some advice?
I used the SST 150 grain last year in my 30-06 and was very pleasantly surprised.....good mushrooms and excellent accuracy. I got passthrus on several shots but a couple shots lengthways left me very nicely mushroomed proof of excellence.
Normally I use standard interlocks but I had these and used them.....I really was impressed.

Pretty much the same with a buddy, Phillip, in Raleigh using the 150gr SSTs in a 308Win. I'd guess he has been using them for 5-6 years, shoots for the shoulders and gets Exits. If he ever mentioned recovering one, I just don't remember it.
Most fell where they stood or only ran a short distance, normally leaving a fine blood trail.
Can't help you with the 130gr SST for a 270Win though.
Good Hunting and clean 1-shot Kills.

I have a 270 Gibbs with a Krieger barrel. Its most accurate load is with the 130 SST. I have found this bullet a lot easier to work with than the Nosler BT as the BT needs to have a very specific load worked up to group well. Another thing I like about the SST is that the Interbond shoots to exactly the same point of aim in my rifle. SSTs are used for general practice and working up loads and the Interbond is used for important hunts.

Haven't shot that particular bullet but I've been completely satisfied with the .308 bullets in both 150 and 180 gr. weights. I'm using them in a .308 and a 30-06.

I have no personal experience with them, but the owner of the gunshop where I trade a lot is a very experienced hunter and prefers the SST to any of the traditional cup and core or non-bonded tipped bullets presently available.

Ive loaded the 130s for a co-workers 270, used a load of IMR4350, which btw, Ill never use again, just love the short-cut powders like H4831sc or RE22. At any rate, he had very good results shooting these bullets, believe he put down a number of deer last few years with them.

I've used quite a few SSTs. They are more explosive than Nosler Ballistic Tips on game. If you like varmint bullet performance and no exits most of the time even on small deer, these are the bullets for you.
Good Luck
