Got my choices narrowed down for my Savage 7 Rem Mag to either the Barnes 175 X or 175 Partition. Wondering which would be the better choice for accuracy. Would like to get sub 1 inch groups if possible.

Obviously you will not know until you try 'em. My experience has been that I can always get Partitions to shoot pretty well. I have struggled with the X, though when it shoots well (like in my 9.3x62's) it shoots incredibly well. It's performance on game for me in Africa was equally incredible though the Partition has always worked for me on game up through elk. I am now leaning towards the X unless I can't get it to shoot accurately...

Although I have gotten good accuracy in my 7mm with the 175 gr. X, I would bet on average the Nosler will shoot sub MOA more often. Plus, that 175 gr. X is sooooo long, it cramps alot of powder space. The 175 gr. Partition is long as well, but is short compared to the Barnes X. Go with the Nosler, IMHO.

If you are looking for similar terminal performance, a 150 or 160 X is "equal" to a 175 Partition, give or take...

I've found X bullets to give excellent accuracy, but so has the Partition. Your rifle wil let you know which one it likes best, I guess...

Von -- Only your barrel can tell you, it is up to you to shoot enough different bullets to determine the one it likes. I always start with North Fork, Partition, Barnes, Swift, for animals over deer size. Lessor size animals may get standard bullets or the above, once depending on what my barrel likes. The worst mistake is pick a bullet and then when it doesn't shoot well, discard the rifle. Good shooting.

X or Triple shock but as tod said I'd go lighter, 150 or 160grain.

I have gotten much better accuracy, overall, using Nosler Partition bullets than from Barnes X's, and in calibers from 6mm to .375 H&H!!

If I was using the X-bullet in 7mm Rem Mag, I would choose a 160-grain. If I was using a Partition, I'd choose either the 160-grain or the 175-grain, depending upon what my barrel preferred. All three are outstanding bullets, used regularly with success, the world over.

I have never really gotten great accuracy from the 'X'. It seems very picky about vel., distance to the lands, moon & tide cycles, etc. I have always gotten at least good (1-1 1/2MOA)accuracy from the NP in every caliber I own. The only bullet my .338-06 shoots sub MOA is the 210grNP. I also like the good expansion I get from a Nosler w/ more than enough penetration for any angle shot (JMO).
