I want to get the throat lengthened on my Ruger #1 in 45-70. I have to seat speer 400 gr bullets to the 1st crimp groove and I want to seat them to the 2nd. Problem is the gunsmith around here are 1- too busy or 2- do not want to do the job. Can someone make any recommendations for a gunsmith?

Thank you.

A less expensive solution would to use a Lee Factory Crimp Die as it allows you to crimp anywhere you want on the bullet....they work great and are easy to use.

DB, I don't think that will accomplish what he wants. As I read it, Brewtcl wants to load a longer overall cartridge length, and it won't fit in the rifle. If I'm wrong, let me know.

Brew, I understand that the older Rugers would take 'em seated out longer, but not the newer ones. Shouldn't be a tough job though. Very cool rifle, have always wanted one of those. Regards & good luck, Guy

Yes you are correct. I want to seat the bullet further out.
