1. 7x57, Columbian ,Mod 98 19" barrel, Rp cases, #34 primers, 38 grs.WCC844, @ 50yds.
  • 120gr. psp. Hornady, oal= 3.040", 2440 to 2473 fps. 1 1/4" group.
  • 140gr. Sierra, oal=3.045", 2395 to 2489 fps. 3/4" grop.
  • 150gr. psp. Speer, oal= 3.000" 2507 To 2553 fps.???????????, 1" group.

    2. 7 X 57, SAME, 22.5 gr. 4759,
  • 120gr. sp., Hornady, oal= 3.018fps., mild, sooty, 2084 to 2139 fps.5 shot 1 1/2" group.
  • 140gr. spitzer Sierra, oal=2.983",2003 to 2042 fps., 4 shot 1" group, great at 200 yds.
  • 150gr. psp. Speer, oal=2.945 fps., 1957 to 1973 fps. 4 shot 1" group.

    >223, Stevens ,Mod 200, wsr.primers, WW cases, 50 yds.
  • 70gr. VLD. Berger, 27.2gr. DP85, oal=2.395", some soot, 2526 to 2606 fps., 3 shot 1/2" group. mild.
  • 70gr. VLD., Berger, 24.7 gr. acc2520, oal=2.350", 2865 to 2918 fps. .3"grp---2" group at 400 yds.
  • 80 gr. VLD. Berger, 27.2gr. DP85, oal=2.460" 2512 to 2569 fps. OK but not great.
  • 80gr. VLD Berger, 24.7 gr. acc2520, oal=2.430", mild, 2817 to 2835 fps.3 shot 3/4" group.

    IMHO the VLDs, because of capacity, throat and neck restrictions are not a good match for a .223. A larger case with a long neck in a rifle with a deep throat is needed. I'll bet I'm not the first one to make that conclusion. boohooroger
