just looked in the lee manual for a load for 58gr, but they only give loads for 55gr and 60gr. could anybody tell me how to work out a load of h4895 for a 58gr vmax? thanks in advance guys swath | ||

Use the data for a heavier bullet. I always check at least two sources however for any load. I am loading the 243 Win with that 58 gr bullet and using 44.5 grs of IMR 4064. The load is on the light side in my 22" barreled rifle. The velocity is just over 3750 fps. Rifles, components and conditions vary so work up. | |||

guys, i only have H4895 powder, i have only been loading for a week or so, and i dont want to blow my rifle up! ive looked at steves reloading pages, but it does not list powder H4895 and a 58gr vmax, i dont fancy loading for a heavy bullet as i dont feel confident enough to do so. any other ideas guys. thanks for the input swath guys just looked at the hodgdon site data, they list a 55gr bullet with 44.5 grs of H4895 for 4060fps, the next one up was 70gr bullets. how can you work it out for 58gr. | |||

I sure you would be very safe to start 2-3grs less then the 55gr bullets call for, say 42grs. and work up. A 3gr. difference (bullet weight) in a 243 isn't very important. Pedro | |||

i have just checked the hodgdon site it lists a 55gr bullet for 44.5 gr h4895.is that the max load? just checked steves loading pages and it lists 35.1 - 39.0 of aa 2015. i have only got H4895. thanks swath | |||

pedro in the lee manual its got the 55gr bullet with a starting load of 40.0 never exceed 44.5, for the 60gr bullet its got starting load 38.0 never exceed 42.0. would i be quite safe to just go half way between the two? swath | |||
