I am looking at the Criterion and Shilen Savage pre-fits for the 22-250 AI. One is a 9 twist and the other is an 8 twist. What are the heaviest bullets the respective twists will shoot? Also - what are the lightest bullets each twist will accurately shoot? My end goal is this, shoot heavy for caliber bullets for long-range and also be able to load lighter bullets for varmints. Am I asking too much from these fast twist rates? | ||

An 8 twist in a 22.250 should stabilize the 80 grain bullets as the 7.7" twist in a 223 will do so. My 10" twist 22.250 will stabilize the 70 grain match bullets so the 9" twist should be good for at least the 75 grain bullets. I shoot the 50 grain lead core bullets and the 36 grain mono-metal bullets out of my 10" twist and never worry about spinning them to fast.
