My loads consists of once fired Lapua brass (94.2 grs. of water to the very top), Fed. GM215m primers. Hodgdon lists 73.5 grs. of H4831 as max. I have loaded to 78 grs. for 3075 fps. from a 25" Hart barrel and have experienced no pressure signs. Quick Load predicts the pressure of around 58,000 psi. Does this load sound unreasonably hot? How foolish is it to load above the book? My brass has more internal volumn than the Winchester used by Hodgdon.
What have you loaded with this combo and a 180 Nosler Partition?
Thanks,
Jim

I have a Rem 300 WIN MAG with a Hart barrel. I shoot 78 grains Reloader 22 with a 165 grain Barnes X bullet. Good accuracy. Hornady Interbond 150 grain bullet is even more accurate. I don't know the velocity, but I'm sure it's over 3000 fps

I'm using 77.0 grains of H4831sc in my Winchester model 70 with a 26" tube using 180 grain Nosler Accubonds and Balistic tips with speed of around 3050 fps through the chronograph. When I went higher than that load, the pressure signs went up and the accuracy went away. That load has been awesome on long ranging shots on elk and big deer.

Try 75.5gr of RL-22 with 180 Partitions. Never saw a 300 Win Mag that did not shoot that load really well. Should be about 3070 with a 26" bbl. If you are loading anything over book you need a bigger caliber. It ain't if, it's when and how bad! In this day and time of super mags it just does not make good sence.

My rifle takes less powder. About 74.5 grs H4831 is all it wants with a Nosler 180 Partition for 3050 fps (24" barrel). Just goes to show that each rifle is a rule to itself.

I tire quickly of those who point to a single reference -- one or another reloading manual -- and regard it as gospel. The data in most manuals is pretty dependable FOR THE ONE RIFLE/CHAMBER/BARREL IN WHICH THE DATA WAS TESTED. It is only an approximation for all other guns.

I would not load that hot. I have gone to78g with 165 N bts. A hot day and it is to hot. That is probably the most meat destructive load I have ever seen. Accuracy was actually best at 76g in a Savage Alaskan rifle.
