Can I use the same load data for a conventional soft nosed bullet/jacketed bullet and a FMJ bullet of the same weight? I have the HDY-FMJ 300gn but no data for H4350, and data for the 300gn SIE SPBT with H4350. Previously I have used a lower than start load for the 300 gn Norma Oryx bullet, 73gn H4350 with good results on moose and seal. No signs on too low pressure either. It carried the message as it should. I got pressure signs when approaching 77gn, and best accuracy with 73gn. Are these loads ok to start with? I am taking it safely and do not want to get into too high or low pressures and therefore ask before starting to develop a load where I do not have any data. Sincerely Daniel | ||

Why not? The bearing surface of like-weight bullets can have some influence on pressures, but not enough to affect the selection of a STARTING LOAD. Start low, work up, you may end up with different PEAK LOADS for different bullets of the same weight, but with starting loads, I see no problems starting with the same charge for each type, as long as the bullets weigh the same..... Yup.....I agree with this. It's rare that I'd disagree with El Deguello.....he's been around the block a few times. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
