A guy at work just gave me some winchester 231 powder. What can this powder be used for? thanks,

I have found win 231 to be excellent for the 45 ACP and 9mm luger. I have also used it with great results in 40 s&w with 155 gr. bullets. Be advised that win 231 is relatively fast burning and therfore must be used with caution in the 40 s&w as small increases in charge can result in large increases in pressure. The primary reason I like this powder is because it meters better than others like unique, etc.

It is my #1 38 spec. powder

231 can be used for almost every handgun powder. It's an amazing choice. Look at the W-W Handloading manuals, really a super powder!!!

hello, and thanks for the info. I was looking at the powder today and it isn't actually in the shape of a ball. Its more of a flake, like red or blue dot, but it wasn't a perfect circular flake. And it has allmost a green color to it. I thought ball powder was perfect little balls???

I have two cans of 231 and they both look like you describe. The balls have been rolled into little flattened flakes. They also have the tendency to appear green depending on the light.

231 is a very versatile powder, i use it in several of my handguns. You can go to www.wpowder.com and look at the load data. Keep in mind that their data is VERY conservative but it will get you headed in the right direction.
