Hello all,
I was curious to know what everyone was using for their 338 RUM. What bullet and powder combination you guys are using? What's the tightest group you guys have shot? Etc.
I know this round isn't meant to be a target round, I just want to know.

While the 338 RUM is a hunting cartridge for sure, it CAN be remarkably accurate.

I messed around with one recently and got some really good groups out of it. Even Federal factory ammo loaded with the 250 grain Trophy Bonded bullets gave groups of 0.85 inches at 100 yards. (Three shot groups)

The rifle was a Remington 700 Sendero with a 4 X 12 Leupold mounted on it. I lightened the trigger a little, otherwise the gun is stock.

I came up with two loads that were outstanding in this rifle. The ammo was loaded in Remington cases and used Federal 215 primers. The overall length of the loaded cartridges was 3.62 inches.

One load utilzed the 200 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip seated over 93.5 grains of RL 22. This gives about 3260 fps and groups around 0.65 inches.

The second load used the 225 Nosler Accubond seated over 96 grains of RL 25. The velocity was 3160 fps and I shot groups as small as 0.37 inches with it.

I was really surprised that the Accubond shot so well in this rifle as I had tried the same bullets in a couple of 338 Win Mag's with pretty sorry results in regards to accuracy.

I suggest you start a couple grains lower on the powder charges, but these loads were perfectly safe in the rifle I tested.

R Flowers,..I am preparing to launch those exact same pills you tested out of mine. What was the distance to the lands with respect to the COL you listed?

Thanks for the load data.

I had sub MOA using 225 Accubonds with 99 and 100 grains of Retumbo.

It is at the upper limits so work your way up.

I have to admit that the OAL I used was simply controlled by the length the magazine would take. Both of those bullets have quite a jump to the lands when seated at that depth, but just shoot great. I initially tried to load out closer to the lands but found the magazine would not take anything longer than 3.62 inches so had to settle for that.
