T. Brady,

http://yarchive.net/gun/ammo/308_loads.html

Check out the data and see if any of it works for you. Not knowing anything about the gun being used or any other relevant data when you are shooting this is all just stabs in the dark.

If you have the 1in10 twist you might as well use the heavier bullets. I use 190 Sierra MK with 44grns of IMR 4064 to get 2670fps out of a 30in tube (caution, this load is close to max). I have also found the 175s to work good with 45.5grns of Varget @ 2812fps.
Hell, just for fun with my 1in10 I loaded some 220 Sierra MKs, but the 2450 fps didn't cut the mustard. The bullet just took up to much powder room.

Dan. Try the 220 gr. Sierra RN. At 2300 FPS from a 1 in 12" twist Win. M70, I shot several .375" groups. Should be a good bullet for larger game under close range conditions. My notes aren't handy, but the powder was W-760 IIRC. Whatever, the expwerimentation was fun and enlightening. Proved two things for me. The .308 can reach usable velocity with a 220 gr. bullet and a 1 in 12" twist will stabilize a 220 gr. bullet. Now, armed with all that and a $1.00, I can get a cup of coffee. [Big Grin]
