Hi, guys, newbie to this part of Accuratereloading.com. I am looking for a source of brass for an Austrian made side by side, 16Gx6.5x70R. The one case my friend has for this rifle barrel is marked RWS, but I have been unable to find a source. C-H lists dies. Anyone have any idea where I can obtain some. Friend would love to shoot this rifle. Thanks, Ernie

If you can post some dimensions perhaps someone can help. I have a dimensional chart that lists a 6.5x70R Sauer,if the dimensions listed are correct there is no other case it could be formed from. Horneber,RWS,Bertram and OWS does not list a 6.5x70R. As a last resort cartridges might be bought from a collector or machined from C26000 half hard brass. WC

You might search around A.R. for posts on the 6x70R. I read in one of those posts that this new cartridge from Krieghoff is based on an older round called the 6.5x70R. The new carrtridge is long and slender and used for insert barrels in shotguns. Howell's book on cartridges has drawings for an old cartridge called the 6.5x70R, but the book is not at hand. I think the base diameter was about .36 inches. Anyway, if your6.5x70R is the ancestor of the current 6x70R, you might be able to form brass from it. Norma was supposed to load new ammunition, but I didn't find any listing for the brass at either Huntington's or Norma. If you're desperate, Rocky Mountain Cartridge will make you some on their CNC lathe. Karl

Thanks for the information guys. I will look into the 6X70R connection, might be some help there. I had thought of Rocky Mountain Cartridge, but that will, indeed, be a desperation move to have cases lathe turned. This cartridge is not listed in Donnelly's cartridge conversions book. Some dimensions from BruceB on the Cast Boolits site at Aimoo; length 2.760", rim diameter .4213", rim thickness .0598", base diameter .3543", case mouth .2921", bullet diameter .261". I am off to search for 6X70R. Thanks bundles, Ernie

Kettner in Germany (www. kettner.de) offers ammo for the 6,5x70R loaded with a 100 grains bullet that is custom manufactured by W. Romey. I'm afraid the price is custom too: they sell it at some USD 10,- per round!

Thank you, Dutchgus. I have been to their website, briefly, this morning. New England Custom Guns is the US representative, I will call them when I am off again Friday. Also will spend some on their home web site. This information is much appreciated. Respects, Ernie

New England Custom Guns came through. An associate of theirs picked up 40 cases at a gun show (London, I believe) and I now have them at a cost of $120.00, delivered. My old Herter's 26-145 mold will provide bullets, and we will start with black powder loads. The bore slugs .264-.265, so standard 26 caliber bullets will work without excessive sizing. Thanks all for the help and advice. Ernie
