Is this press capable of reloading this big a cartridge? Wondering with the larger body size if there are any issues. Being a straight wall case, I wouldn't think it a difficult cartridge to reload. Collect bullet puller the only way to pull them if needed? I use an impact bullet puller for my 458 and 450/400 but it won't handle larger.

Ol` JoeI don`t load the 500NE or similar sized cartridges but if I did I would look at the Redding Big Boss over the RCBS. The cartridge "window" is larger and the frame beefier yet.

hunteratheartI already have the RCBS and didn't want to invest in dies if there were issues.

ledvmThe only thing out of the ordinary you will need for the .500 NE is ability to use 1 1/4 dies...IF...you plan on using the Lee FCD...it is a large series.
So if that press is bushed on top from 1 1/4 to 7/8ths...it will work fine.

hunteratheartThanks for the info guys. Didn't want to drop money into the dies if it wouldn't handle it.

ledvmNothing particularly hard or different with .500 NE. The stardard dies are 7/8. If the case will fit in the opening...it will work.
I think a Lee FCD is a must...which will require the 1 1/4" opening.
I load on a Lee turret press with my Lee Factory Crimp die on a seperate Lee Classic Cast press.

hunteratheartIs Hornady the only one that makes a 7/8" die body for these? Everything else looks like 1" or larger. Anyone have any luck using the Hornady ones? As it's only a 2 die set and doesn't look like it includes a decapper, not sure what one would use for popping primers.

ledvmI use RCBS dies for my .500 NE and they are 7/8" dies. I have a custom Lee FCD which is 1 1/4".
The RCBS set has FL die, Expander die, Seater die.

Lane,
With the price diff between the Hornady 3 die series and the RCBS safari series, is there a reason you went with RCBS dies? They are well over twice as expensive as the Hornady set.

ledvmNo...not really. I got a good deal on my dies used.
I have just never got into Hornady stuff that much. I am sure they are fine.

Dutch44Steve:
I have used the Hornady dies and they worked fine. Now I'm back into the .500 and have to buy another set and get started. I use a Redding Ultra Mag as it has plenty of clearance and the priming arm is really easy to use.
