just wanted to know what the rest of you thought were good? going to get mitutoyo but unsure if i should get digital, dial or just normal ones.

which ones hold zero the best? have been using the normal calipers but the owner has taken them back.

the plus of a digital one is that the measurement is right there but people have told me that they get un-calibrated

I have and use the Mitutoyo dial calipers and have never needed a digital readout. Great calipers. You won't go wrong with either one you choose.

I have Mitutoyo dial calipers and cheap Harbor Freight digitals

My Mitutoyo calipers came with a one inch standard for calibration. Neither the Mitutoyo or the cheap digitals have needed calibration since I don't know when.

A standard is a nice thing to have around just in case you're not sure about your measuring tools. It is a simply a small rod that is precision ground to check you measuring tools. Mine is a one inch standard. A must have if you have all kinds of micrometers and calipers as I do.

To answer your question, I use the dial calipers for all my reloading.

If you go to the MSC page, that has the calipers listed, you will see that all of the brands listed are accurate to + or - .001".

I didn't know anyone made a calipers with a vernier scale anymore let alone finding anyone that actually knows how to read one.

The digitals are convertable to metric if that's important to you. The dial calipers require no battery and are relatively easy to use and can be cheap.

Mitutoyo is a fine tool but for less than half the price a equivalent quality tool can be had (from Midway in the US) and I'm sure down under as well.

I rest my case!

I have Mitutoyo digital they are used in a mfg inviroment and they hold very well.
Also use starret dial calipers and have more trouble with them than the mitutoyo

oh ok, i have a chance to buy a mitutoyo digital calipers for under half price but they are 7 years old. dont know if that means anything or not
